Definition
The Strategy Council is the review body that signs recommendations at the Decide gate of a strategy1 engagement and, on the retainer, reviews drift and next decisions every month. It gives feedback between runs, sees each option only after the red team has argued against it, and must approve a decision memo before it is issued.
Explained in full on The S1 Method: the Decide stage.
Context
A recommendation is only useful if the people who own the decision see it in time and choose. The Council gives that choice a fixed place and rhythm, and keeps every decision tied to the evidence and KPIs behind it.
In practice
In every engagement, a decision memo is issued only with the Strategy Council's approval and, for any part carrying professional liability, a Domain Fellow's sign-off. On the retainer, scenarios are re-run before each Council, and every ad-hoc engine run is measured against a baseline agreed in the Council.
FAQ
Each month the Strategy Council pack shows KPIs against the decisions that set them, drift alerts, re-run scenarios and proposed decisions. The Council reviews the pack, and people choose what to do next.
No. Before an option reaches the Strategy Council, four critics, competitor, regulator, investor and customer, argue against it, and two judges check the result. The Council sees each option with its red-team report.
The decision memo, at gate H2. A memo is issued only with the Strategy Council's approval and, where a part carries professional liability, a Domain Fellow's signature on that part.
